Images of the present return to the museum walls

After a break of a few years, visitors can once again see the World Press Photo images within the walls of the National Museum. The exhibition was last held there in 2023 and moved out in 2024. This year's selection is still on view at the Biodóm.

The return in 2027 was announced by Tamás Révész, the exhibition’s main organizer in Hungary, and Dr. Gábor Zsigmond, the museum’s director general, according to Kultúra.hu.

## Back in familiar halls

In a video by the Hungarian National Museum, Tamás Révész said: “Coming back is like a rehabilitation.” According to the chief organizer, the exhibition returns in a fitting way to the city center, to one of the most elegant museums, where many people used to visit it.

He also hopes that World Press Photo and the museum's other exhibitions will together “attract visitors like a magnet”. For Erzsébetváros audiences, the change means that in 2027 they can once again see the selection of the best international press photos in the city center.

## When the present becomes the past

Gábor Zsigmond described the exhibition's return as a meeting of past and present. “These photographs above all show the present, but let's not forget that this present will in time become part of our past,” the director general said.

This idea is particularly well-suited to a history museum: at the moment they are taken, press photos capture the world as it is unfolding; later, however, they themselves become historical documents.

World Press Photo is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in the Netherlands 70 years ago. The awards are presented in Amsterdam, and the winning photographs go on tour around the world. This tour will once again make a stop in Budapest at the Hungarian National Museum in 2027.
