The floor is sticky, guests come and go, and within a few hours whole societies crowd around the bar. The world of the Vígszínház's new production is a Grand Boulevard pub, but the audience doesn't stay outside it. Even before the start they can go up on stage, and in the interval they can order, write a message on the wall and dance with the cast.
4-6, mulatós was directed by Attila Vidnyánszky Jr. Pogány Induló, real name Marcell Szirmai, does not appear as a guest or in a short musical interlude: according to We Love Budapest's October 9 review, he has a weighty, substantial role in the production.
## Life begins after the final exams
The production is a sequel to @LL3t4rgIA. While the previous show was about the period of the school-leaving exams, 4-6 picks up the thread when the young people walk out of the school gate and try to find their way in adult life for the first time.
After the 2025 school-leaving exams, seasons, holidays and life situations follow one another quickly. The first job, aimlessness, love, family burdens and the experience of exploitation all appear. The play also talks about alcoholism, depression and toxic parental relationships, but it is not a gloomy show: the heavier themes come with humor and lively music.
Instead of a traditional plot, scenes, characters and recognizable lines follow one another. English fans, football ultras, homeless people, alcoholics, guests stuck in a breakup and young people just starting their lives all turn up in the pub.
## The boulevard as a shared set
The setting is the 4es6os pub, a well-known regular haunt of university students. It plays the same role as the boulevard tram itself: it gathers people, takes them somewhere, then brings them back again.
As a reader from Erzsébetváros, it's hard to feel this world is foreign. We Love Budapest's review also recalls Akácfa among the meeting places of earlier generations, where people tried to figure out the world over a spritzer in sticky booths. The place and the music may have changed; the search for a path hardly has.
Meanwhile, the stage pub becomes a miniature of the country. Topical political references, public-life asides and scenes recalling memes that spread fast on Instagram, TikTok or Reddit mix with personal stories. According to the review, these don't overshadow the play's main theme: the experiences of young people today.
## Concert and theater in one evening
The scenes often work like a concert, and Pogány Induló's role fits this form. In the interval the audience can itself become part of the set: go up on stage, order at the pub, write on the wall, then jump around together to Marcell Szirmai's music.
According to the We Love Budapest writer, older audience members laughed and moved along with the younger ones too. Although the play draws mainly on Gen Z's life situations, its questions about work, family, addiction and starting over may be familiar to several generations.
4-6, mulatós is a Vígszínház production directed by Attila Vidnyánszky Jr. The main roles are played by Patrícia Kovács, Ferenc Borbiczki, Réka Ágota Gál, András Ötvös, Marcell Szirmai and László Sebestyén Szabó.
