FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

(updated continuously)

From June 22, where should bins be put out on collection days in the streets concerned?

Garbage trucks can still enter the streets, so bins should be put out in their usual place.

I have reduced mobility, live on Asbóth Street and use the taxi card provided by the local government. Can the taxi take me door to door? If not, where can I get in?

Vehicles carrying people with disabilities are subject to the same conditions as before, so the taxi can enter Asbóth Street if the passenger holds a disability parking card.

I live on Dob Street, I am elderly and use Tesco’s home delivery. Will they still deliver my shopping?

A central loading zone will be created on Rumbach Sebestyén Street at the junction with Dob Street, and on Dob Street after the junction with Kazinczy Street. Vehicles can stop there, and goods can be taken to your home with a hand truck.

I am about to move and live on Kazinczy Street. When and for what can an access permit be requested, from whom, and what does it cost? Do I have to arrange it, or the moving company?

During the summer test period, Budapest Közút issues permits in all cases, including the following:
•    moving (between 6:00 and 12:00)
•    apartment renovation, repair, maintenance (between 6:00 and 12:00)
•    repair, maintenance and renovation of utilities (between 6:00 and 12:00)
•    emergency repairs (24/7)

Trucks with a maximum permitted weight over 3.5 t can request permission via the TOBI platform. Fees corresponding to the Pest 3.5 t zone must be paid for the permission.
Trucks with a maximum permitted weight of up to 3.5 t can request an access permit by email (teherforgalom@budapestkozut.hu), with a completed and signed copy of the published Request form (https://www.budapestkozut.hu/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/igenybejelento_BE.pdf).
Complete applications are processed within 2 working days at most.
Applications are processed on working days between 8:00 and 16:00, except on Fridays, when they are processed until 14:00.
Budapest Közút contact details:
•    email: teherforgalom@budapestkozut.hu
•    phone: +36 1 7766 100 – menu option 1 / Monday – Thursday: 8:00 – 16:00 and Friday: 8:00 – 14:00
•    in-person customer service: BKK Kelenföld Customer Center, Address: Budapest, District XI, Kelenföld railway station, metro station underpass level, Őrmező exit / Monday – Thursday: 9:00 – 17:00 and Friday: 9:00 – 15:00

My kitchen is being renovated this summer. If parking on Síp Street is not possible, how will the kitchen furniture be delivered? Do I need a permit? I have already ordered the furniture and it is being made.

Síp Street remains open to traffic as before; no access permit is needed. The parking arrangements change: on the section between Dohány Street and Dob Street, parking spaces on the right-hand side in the direction of travel are removed. Parking will still be available on the section between Dohány Street and Wesselényi Street on the left-hand side, and there will be a central loading zone on the corner of Síp Street and Wesselényi Street.

How do tradespeople get into the pedestrian streets? Is it true that those who come into the pedestrian streets charge more?

If the job requires a lot of equipment, it is worth requesting an access permit; otherwise tradespeople can park in the surrounding streets. We have no information that tradespeople charge extra for this.

I have my own parking space in an underground car park, which I bought specifically so my clients have somewhere to park. I heard that access permits will be tied to license plates. How can I get a permit for my clients? From whom? It would be 2-3 clients a day.

During the summer test period, Budapest Közút issues permits in all cases, including for access to off-street parking spaces for exclusive use (24/7).
Vehicles with license plates can request an access permit by email (teherforgalom@budapestkozut.hu), with a completed and signed copy of the published Request form (https://www.budapestkozut.hu/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/igenybejelento_BE.pdf). Free of charge until August 31, 2025.
Important!
For access to a multi-story car park or garage, during the summer test period it is enough to request a permit for the car once.

I usually drive an elderly, sick relative who can barely walk to the doctor. Can I no longer stop on the new pedestrian street while I pick them up and take them home?

If the disability parking card is displayed in the car, under the Highway Code (KRESZ) the car may enter and park in the pedestrian and cycling zone.

I have reduced mobility, so in the mornings I go to work by taxi or with colleagues who drive. Will neither the taxi nor my colleagues be able to pick me up in front of my building?

Motor vehicle access will end on the following streets:

•    the section of Kazinczy utca between Rákóczi út – Dohány utca and Wesselényi utca – Dob utca,
•    the section of Dob Street between Rumbach Sebestyén Street and Síp Street,
•    Csányi Street from the underground car park onward.

No-stopping signs will be put up on these streets. Holders of a disability parking card, and vehicles carrying them, may drive and park in the pedestrian and cycling zones in line with the Highway Code (KRESZ). Designated disabled parking spaces can be used for longer-term parking; these can be requested from Budapest Közút.

After a big shopping trip, can't we even drive into our street for as long as it takes one of us to unload the bags in front of the building? Will we have to carry everything from several streets away?

In streets with a no-stopping sign, stopping may result in a fine.

Will taxis be able to enter the section of Kazinczy Street between Dohány and Wesselényi Streets, or really only those with an access permit?

No, taxis are not allowed to enter pedestrian and bicycle zones.

If someone wants to move in or out, how will the removal van – or an ambulance or fire engine – get in if the entrance is barricaded? What about people with disabilities?

Vehicles carrying a person with reduced mobility may drive and park in the zone, provided the conditions for this are met.
Emergency vehicles with flashing lights may enter anywhere under the Highway Code (KRESZ).
During the summer test period, Budapest Közút issues permits in all cases, including the following:

Has anyone checked how a truck over 3.5 tonnes, or a long 3.5-tonne truck, turns from Síp Street into Dob Street?

The route is used several times a week by large vehicles (e.g. garbage trucks), and neither the junction geometry nor the traffic direction changes, so a 3.5-tonne vehicle will be able to turn in, provided it does not exceed 2 meters in width. For vehicles exceeding the height, width and weight limits in force, a separate route permit must be requested in TOBI; in this case the road authority checks whether the vehicle meets the conditions.

Where and how can I get an access permit for moving, furniture delivery and other cases?

During the summer test period, Budapest Közút issues permits in all cases, including the following:
•    moving (between 6:00 and 12:00)
