In a downtown district, regulating e-scooters is not just an abstract transportation policy issue. With vehicles left on sidewalks, pedestrians, and e-scooter riders all sharing the same limited urban space, any changes to the rules of use can be felt immediately in Erzsébetváros as well.
One of the topics discussed at the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, October 7, was the tightening of traffic regulations for e-scooters. According to a statement by Prime Minister Péter Magyar, the cabinet also discussed the national afforestation program, priority investments, and EU affairs, Portfolio reported.
## Budget planning has begun
At this meeting, the government began preparing the 2027 budget. The plans outlined by Portfolio include several economic measures that could affect both business owners and taxpayers.
The KATA system could be reinstated under more favorable terms, while the amount of credit available to businesses could also increase. The article also listed the tightening of the MNB’s oversight among the measures currently being prepared.
The cabinet would also overhaul the process for investigating politicians’ assets. Portfolio reported that the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) could conduct a retrospective review of politicians’ assets going back five years. Péter Magyar would also modify the plans for the wealth tax. The elements outlined are still in the planning stages; their detailed regulations and final form depend on further decisions.
## Diákváros may restart
Among the day's Budapest announcements was the Diákváros (Student Town) project. Dávid Vitézy, Minister of Transport and Investment, said that the project, which had repeatedly been thrown into doubt, would be relaunched. The minister also spoke about the development of Rákosrendező.
Although the two projects are not located in Erzsébetváros, they could shape Budapest’s development priorities, transportation system, and the order in which public projects are carried out. Funding for these priority projects may already be included in the 2027 budget currently being drafted.
