Szilveszter Péter Szabó received eight votes in favour and one against. Gergely Csiby was backed by seven votes, with two abstentions. Ervin Nagy, the state secretary responsible for culture, announced the result on his Facebook page and congratulated the two incoming directors.
Organisation, an ethics code and musical leadership
The committee praised Szabó’s plans for the staff and organisational structure of Madách Színház. His proposals on innovation, an ethics code and the contractual arrangements within the company also received a positive assessment.
The evaluation added that his plans would place the theatre’s musical leadership in experienced hands.
A more open community space at Új Színház
The selection panel described Csiby’s proposal as energetic, carefully considered and mature, representing the voice of a new generation.
The panel also responded positively to his ideas on professional integration and bringing social issues into the theatre’s work. His plans include opening Új Színház up as a community space, potentially with room for a coworking office.
The two appointments will run from 31 January 2027 until 31 January 2032.
