\nBudapest currently has 38 fixed and 33 mobile speed cameras. Together, they recorded 157,105 speeding offences in the first six months of 2026, an average of 868 a day, Index reported on Tuesday, 3 November, citing police data published by 24.hu.<\/p>\n

Police issued fines totalling HUF 7,216,366,000 for these offences. This figure refers to fines imposed rather than the amount actually paid.<\/p>\n

Under current rules, fixed speed cameras must be marked with advance warning signs. The figures attributed to Hungary\u2019s National Police Headquarters, known as ORFK, show that many drivers still exceed the speed limit despite those warnings.<\/p>\n

Nagyk\u0151r\u00f6si \u00fat tops the list<\/h2>\n

The speed camera recording the highest number of offences nationwide is located outside 46 Nagyk\u0151r\u00f6si \u00fat in Budapest\u2019s District XIX.<\/p>\n

Several other Budapest locations appear on the national list. They include the inbound and outbound sections of the M3 motorway at the Szerencs utca junction in District XV, the inbound section of the M1\u2013M7 motorways at the 6 km + 300 metre marker in District XI, and the camera outside 185 Nagyk\u0151r\u00f6si \u00fat in District XX.<\/p>\n

The ORFK list also includes cameras outside Budapest, on sections of the M2 road, routes 42 and 67, and the M3 motorway.<\/p>\n

Figures from the previous two years<\/h2>\n

In 2025, cameras recorded 349,126 speeding offences in Budapest, resulting in fines of more than HUF 18.4 billion. In 2024, 228,481 cases were recorded and fines exceeded HUF 11.7 billion.<\/p>\n

The 2026 figures cover only the first six months of the year and therefore do not represent a full-year total.<\/p>\n

Strong support for average-speed enforcement<\/h2>\n

According to D\u00e1vid Vit\u00e9zy, Hungary\u2019s minister for transport and investment, more than 300,000 people completed the latest road safety questionnaire. Of those who responded, 72 per cent supported the introduction of average-speed enforcement.<\/p>\n
